Venue

The Symposium will be held at Saint Petersburg Academic University on the base of the Algorithmic Biology Laboratory.

Saint Petersburg Academic University was founded in 1997 as Research and Education Center of the Ioffe Institute with a goal to integrate science and education in the field of physics and information technologies. Its concept was due to the Director of the Ioffe Institute, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Nobel Prize Laureate (2000), Academician Zhores Alferov, who has headed it since the very beginning, and is nowadays the Rector of Academic University. The main divisions of Academic University are Center for Nanotechnology, Center for Graduate Studies, High School Center (Lyceum “Physical-Technical School”), and Scientific-Educational Auditorium. Its structure thus allows for continuous education and training of young researchers starting from secondary school level.

The Algorithmic Biology Laboratory (ABL) was founded at Saint Petersburg Academic University in January 2011 under the endowment of the Megagrant program, which is aimed at supporting cutting edge research in Russia. Most Megagrant projects are led by former Russian scientists who now work abroad, including ABL, which was founded by Dr. Pavel Pevzner from the University of California, San Diego. ABL presently comprises ten permanent members, and its primary research interests lie in computational genomics and proteomics, with particular focuses on single cell sequencing and antibody sequencing.
